Objectives: Frequency of Tuberculosis (TB) in HIV-positive people all over the world is higher than HIV-negative population. According to World Health Organization In 2017, TB caused an estimated 1.3 million deaths (range, 1.2–1.4 million) among HIV-negative people and there were an additional 300 000 deaths from TB (range, 266 000–335 000) among HIV-positive people. The increasing number of HIV-TB coexistence cases in recent years we aim to share.

Methods: 32 HIV-positive TB patients were diagnosed and treated in Süreyyapaşa Hospital between 2006-2018 years. Patient files were evaluated for microbiological, radiological, and treatment retrospectively.

Results: The mean age of the patients was 39. 30 of them were male, 2 of them were female.8 cases were foreign nationals. 27 cases had bacteriological, 2 had histopathological, 3 had a clinical radiological diagnosis. 26 patients who were tested for resistance, MDR-TB treatment was initiated in 4 patients. 27 cases were treated as new cases, 5 cases were treated as recurrent cases. 19 of 4 cases with thoracic CT were evaluated for cavitary lesions, Mediastinal lymphadenopathy in 5, miliary appearance in 4, pleural effusion was detected in 2 cases. 21 patients were diagnosed with HIV and TB simultaneously. Pneumocystis jiroveci pneumonia was detected in 1 MDR-TB patient during the examinations because grand glass areas were observed in Bt sections.

Conclusion: Treatment for HIV-TB cases with atypical radiological findings, different clinical course and drug interactions should be started rapidly. Assessing anti-HIV antibodies in TB patients increases the likelihood of early diagnosis of HIV-TB patients.
