Abstract

In the last years, it has been started to gain more importance that using drug via inhalation in the therapy of respiratory diseases. But properties of drug and instrument used have determined effectiveness of the therapy. On the other hand it has been introduced a new problems that not encountered with other therapeutic models. So, a questionaire study evaluated knowledge and behaviour of chest physicians and residents in the our country was performed. It was asked for that 121 physicians, including 65 specialist (53.7%) and 56 resident (46.3%), to answer a questionaire form including 16 questions. Derivated results were evaluated by SPSS for Windows, an statistical program. It was determined that the most drugs used via inhalation were bronchodilators (84%) and the most way preferred was dry powder inhaler (55%). The majority of physicians answered the questionaire (74.8%) were recommending nebuliser treatment to their patients at home in the ratio of 5-10%. The physicians were preferring to use jet nebulisers at homa (99.1%) and hospital (54.7%). They were deciding to use nebuliser according to discordance to other treatments, not to see any benefit with other treatment, and requirement for high dose drug using. In choosing instrument, number of particle produced, number of respirable particles, and patient’s accordance were being taken into cosideration. In determination of device’s effectiveness, functional parameters such as forced expiratory volume in one second and peak expiratory flow rate were being used as a current criterion.
