Abstract

The inhaled route is the most favorable for the administration of anti-asthma drugs. Various types of inhalers have become available in our country, but conventional pressurized metered dose inhalers (MDIs) without spacers are not prescribed in children. The MDI+spacer remains the most frequently used form in children below the age of 7 years and dry powder inhalers are most popular devices in children older than 6 or 7 years of age for the treatment of asthma. Nebulizers may be a suitable alternative for those very young children unable to use an MDI+spacer fitted with a face-mask effectively. Also, acute severe asthma attacks in children are often treated by a nebulizer. The most efficient method of delivering aerosol to children depends on the age and clinical condition of the child.
