Abstract

Source of bacilli in tuberculosis is a diseased person. Infection spreads by air. For this reason, special measures should be taken against the spread of tubercul bacilli in health care facilities which are dealing with TB patients. After outbreaks in industrialized countries, they took serious precautions. Decrease in the spread of infection was shown after these measures. Screening of health care workers in different hospitals in our country showed high prevalance of tuberculosis. This necessiates to take measures in our country. In order to control spread of tuberculosis, early diagnosis of patients and initiating prompt treatment are very important. In addition, a series of precautions should be taken for isolation of source cases, decreasing bacilli in the environment of patients, and protection of personnel who meet patients. These precautions are examined under three headings: measures related to administration, measures related to engineering, and using personel respirators. It would be appropriate to prepare a guideline for precautions against transmission of tuberculosis in health care facilities that can be used in our country.
