Abstract

In recent years, genetics has become the most rapidly developing science in Turkey, as well as the world. The 50th anniversary of the lightening of the structure of DNA by Watson and Crick was celebrated in April 2004. The Human Genome Project (HUGO) was completed in 2003. Publication of the sequence of the human genome created a database that has helped to elucidate the pathogenesis and prognosis of diseases. Moreover, rapid progress in molecular technology has led to many methods being used at the same time. As a result, while planning to perform genetic research, which requires laboratory studies, in clinical settings, genetic methods should be chosen correctly. In this article, genetic methods that can be used while genetic research is planned in chest diseases are reviewed.
